Incumbent Worker Training Program
For the first time, the DuPage Workforce Board is able to direct federal dollars to train full time incumbent workers in DuPage County, which allows the DuPage Workforce Board to offer training services that address the skill needs of the existing workforce, the unemployed and the new entrants to the labor force.
The DuPage Workforce Board's Incumbent Worker Training Grant (IWT) provides assistance to companies training their full time employees. The grant pays for 100 % of the allowed training costs with a maximum of $20,000 per company or $5,500 per person. Companies must match with employee salaries a percentage of the total costs based upon the size of the company.
The training must be targeted to vocational skills that would allow employees to:
- Upgrade jobs
- Increase wages
- Enhance employability
- Create or retain jobs
The IWT is available to companies in sectors identified as having critical shortages in qualified workers:
- Health Care
- Hospitality / Tourism / Destination Retail
- Finance / Insurance
- Manufacturing
- Information Technology
- Transportation / Warehousing / Logistics
- Any company receiving economic development incentives
